The breed was recognized by the American Kennel Club in 1888. This breed is very ancient and the exact origins of these animals are still uncertain. This breed is thought to be the oldest of all the European toy breeds.

The Maltese -

The bodies of these dogs are compact and sturdy; shoulder blades are sloping, the chest is deep and loins are rather strong. These dogs have straight long hair, which hangs almost to the ground if unclipped. The color of the coat is white, although slight lemon or tan markings on the ears are acceptable. The maltese puppies look very attractive in the photos.
