Maltese Dogs are considered a healthy dog breed. However, as the Maltese Dog belongs to the toy group, some diseases are connected with the small size of the breed. Such neurological problems as hydrocephalus (water on the brain), and White Shaker syndrome are sometimes documented in Maltese Dogs.

They may also experience some teeth, eyes or liver problems. It is important to have your Maltese regularly vetted to be aware of health changes, if there are any. Brushing the Maltese's teeth and providing him with a healthy diet is necessary to keep the dog physically fit.

Maltese Dogs have long hair that can bring both comfort and inconvenience to the owners.
